About RMS Travertine
Travertine is one of the oldest materials used by man and has it’s history embedded in the many historical structures of Italy. Travertine is a derivation of the Latin “Tiburtinus”, which means “of Tibur”, which was the original name of Tivoli, where Travertine was originally quarried and still is today. Travertine is a calcium based, sedimentary stone formed in hot springs. The linear pattern of a “vein cut” travertine is a result of calcium rich water deposits where the layers of stone were formed over the millennium. Travertine can also be “cross-cut” (or Fleuri Cut) to create a more subtle, flowery pattern.
