June Rock Star of the Month

Throughout the 60 years of our existence, we occasionally have employees who have a deep desire to learn and grow in their profession and this month’s RockStar happens to be one of those people.  Michael Gallegos started as an install helper and quickly progressed through the shop as a talented fabricator.  When we purchased our Robo-Saw, Michael took the lead in training and running that saw for the next 3 years.  He was recently promoted to shop foreman and is doing an outstanding job in coordinating the projects as they move through the shop.  His attention to detail and understanding of doing things the right way has contributed to his success in this position.

Chase Hanley, one of our project managers, nominated Michael for this recognition and had this to say:

“Michael has shown true talent and success in leadership skills and has been an asset to the Rocky Mountain Stone team.  This talent doesn’t stop at leadership.  The work produced behind the saw, or a grinder, is flawless and timely.  There is no doubt that if a task is assigned, it will be completed in a timely manner with a positive attitude.  Michael is a force to be reckoned with and we are all very lucky to have him as the leader of our shop. It’s an honor to nominate Michael Gallegos as our Rockstar of the month for his talent and success.  Thank you for all you do!”

Congratulations “Mikey” on this well-deserved recognition!

When it comes to stone work—whether it’s a luxurious granite countertop for your kitchen, a natural stone sink in your bathroom, or a beautiful stone patio for your outdoor space—attention to detail is everything. At Rocky Mountain Stone, we know it’s not just about the materials, but also about the skill behind the stone supplier’s process. From selecting stone slabs you love to following through with precise installation, let’s dive into why attention to detail is non-negotiable.

Why Attention to Detail Matters in Stone Work

With materials like granite, marble, and quartzite, stone work gives you a mix of elegance and durability that’s hard to beat. However, even the most beautiful stone can be underwhelming if it’s not installed correctly. Let’s explore why paying close attention to detail is so important in stone work:

1. Maximizing Aesthetic Appeal:

Natural stone is easy to wonder at, with unique patterns, colors, and textures that can even vary within a single slab. These variations are what make natural stone such a popular choice for luxurious modern kitchens and high-end projects (and what we find so mesmerizing!). However, to make sure that these beautiful features shine through in the final result, you have to handle the cutting and installation with care. With less skill or experience, those variations can lead to mismatched patterns or noticeable seams.  Our skilled craftsmen take the time to plan each cut carefully, ensuring that the natural beauty of the stone is highlighted in the best possible way.

2. Staying Structurally Sound

Stone work isn’t just about looks; it’s also about durability. Whether you’re installing granite countertops, a stone fireplace, or a stone-tiled floor, the way the stone is cut, handled, and installed directly impacts how well it’ll hold up under the wear and tear in your household. Cutting corners–literally or figuratively–can create weak spots, uneven surfaces, or areas that aren’t properly supported, which may lead to cracking or shifting down the line. That’s why we pay close attention to every aspect, from the very first design all the way to the finishing touches.

3. Precision in Installation

Even the most stunning stone can lose its charm with less-than-perfect installation! Imagine your beautiful new countertops not being perfectly level or the seams between stone slabs not aligning just right – it can really detract from the overall look. Not only that, but improper installation can lead to some headaches like water seeping through countertops or uneven floors, which might end up damaging both your stone and the underlying structure.

What Can Happen When Corners Are Cut?

Let’s face it; if your stone work is neglected, it will require a lot more care and repairs. You might find yourself re-leveling those uneven countertops or resealing surfaces that aren’t sealed properly, not to mention tending to cracks or fractures. All of this adds to your maintenance costs and can take away from the beauty of your space.
